Phew! If that’s what you think when you take off your shoes – or worse – if someone says it to you, it’s because of your smelly feet. Medically known as bromhidrosis, the condition is typically caused by excess sweat and/or from wearing the same shoes continually, and where excess foot moisture allows for bacteria to overgrow.
At the office of Metropolitan Foot Care, our skilled professionals are committed to keeping your feet healthy, looking good — and odor free! We have compiled a list of things you can do to treat foot odor so that you can be confident every time you take off your shoes:
- Regular cleaning: wash feet and between the toes every day with antibacterial soap.
- Wear wicking socks: these are specially designed to draw moisture away from your feet.
- Change socks: where we usually do this once a day, if you have a foot odor problem, you should put in a clear pair at least 2 or three times a day.
- Alternate shoes: try not to wear the same pair two days in a row so that they have time to air out.
- Antifungal spray: apply it to the insides of your shoes prior to wearing them.
